In general the size of a weighted blanket is a matter of preference for adults and older teens. For children the general guideline is to use a blanket that is no larger than necessary, so you wouldn't want to use a queen size blanket on a 5 year old. The reason for this is that the amount of weight needed to get an effective pressure from the blanket can end up being too heavy for the child to safely use. There is a more detailed explanation and some help with weights and sizes at our weights page which can be found by clicking here What Weight to Choose
